Understanding
Mobile Phone Security Codes |
|
|
It's important to keep your
mobile phone safe and with more attractive
handsets released every year mobile phone
theft is as common as ever.
To protect your handset you can add extra
levels of security such as Personal
Identification Numbers (PINs) and passwords.
In this short guide we'll explain ways to
add mobile phone security codes and what
they each mean.
Keylock
A keylock does just that, it locks the keys
so if they're accidentally pressed they
remain unresponsive and you don't
accidentally call someone. Different
handsets use different codes. Commonly the
menu button, followed by `*` works for most
handsets, as does `*` and `#`
simultaneously.
SIM PIN and (PIN 2)
The SIM PIN code is intended to prevent your
SIM from being accessed by people who
shouldn't use it. The SIM is locked directly
meaning that even if the Sim Card is put
into another handset it still can't be
accessed. Your service provider will have
set a default SIM PIN but you can change it
to make your SIM CARD more secure.
There's also SIM PIN code 2 which prevents
people from accessing certain features of
the phone. Using this code you can make a
fixed dialling list so that only calls to
numbers from a set list can be made along
with other adjustments. However, not all
mobile phone networks support SIM PIN 2.
Phone Security Code
Instead of locking the Sim Card, this code
locks the handset. Some phones will accept
calls while this lock is in place and others
won't. Often `unlocking a mobile phone`
refers to this code. By using this code you
can use a Sim Card from a different network
provider to the one which the handset was
intended to be used with.
Call Barring Code
The default code to access call barring
lists is set by the network provider you
use. Once you know the code you can access
your call barring lists and add or remove
barred numbers.
Account Password
Your account password is the password which
your network service provider uses to verify
you are the account holder when speaking to
you.
Pin Unlock Code
If you make mistakes when trying to use your
SIM PIN code you'll get a special lock put
on your Sim Card and you'll need a different
code to remove this called the Pin Unlock
code. You can get this from your network
service provider. Remember, your Sim Card
can be permanently disabled if you get it
wrong repeatedly.
Mobile phone
encryption
Certain software models and hardware
handsets have been created which are
described as `anti-tapping` phones. With
these phones information is encrypted as it
transfers so that people cannot `tap` or
`tune in` to your conversations.
Handsets are priced at around $1,000 in the
US. These special phones aren't suitable for
most of us who are content with
cheap
mobile phones that let us talk about
trivial things, but there is a burgeoning
commercial market out there.
